Quit going out into the big wide world and pitching strangers on your opportunity. Don’t bother driving from place to place, trying to find that ideal prospect that will build your opportunity for you. Stop with the crazy hotel meetings, the cold calling from a phone book, test driving cards just for the rep’s number or anything this exhausting to try and build your business.
The truth is, times have changed. Gone are the days of “old school marketing” and stalking your prospects until they AVOID you. Now it is more than possible to build your business leveraging the power of the Internet. The smart network marketers have taken their businesses to the Internet because they adapt to change.
So now on the Internet, you’re being flooded with opportunities to make money online. The average Network Marketer will be unable to stand out because s/he is promoting his/her opportunity up front. Why is this a problem?
People DO NOT CARE about your opportunity. People join leaders who will give value to their followers. People will join leaders that send out interesting emails to their email list. Leaders have posture (they’re not bodybuilders) and they are firm in their foundations.
You want to succeed in this industry like the top earners who make 6-7 figures a year? Become a leader. Give away valuable content/information/products that people will find useful. Help others if they are struggling.
It doesn’t matter if they are not interested in what you are offering; in their eyes, you are a leader. So stop marketing your opportunity upfront and brand YOURSELF, and the value you have to offer.
Seb:
Insightful post. What you are describing is catching on these days as “content marketing”. It’s not about hitting your prospects over the head with a sales pitch. It’s about establishing through leadership in your field so that, in time, your prospects will think it’s a no-brainer to come to you and you won’t need to sell them at all.
Seb,
I agree the concept of chasing prospects stinks! Both for the chaser and the chas-ee ; )
Keep up the great articles.
This sounds great Seb. Question: When you brand yourself do you use your own face and name, or do you use a logo and a company name..or perhaps a combination of both. Thanks, and keep up the good work, it is much appreciated!
Mitch, you always brand yourself first (think of You Inc. as opposed to your business – you are unique). remember that people join you and not a business ;)-Seb
Thanks Seb for getting back to me with the great advice.
don’t mention it 😉
