Need search engine optimization training to get more free traffic to your website?
If you’re looking for search engine optimization training, you’re in the right place if you want to use SEO to start creating a trickle of traffic as a result of your content showing up in Google.
While nobody (especially me) can guarantee your content gets ranked, you can at least follow steps to get in Google’s good books when creating content. These 4 tips will help increase your odds of getting ranked.
Disclaimer: Please be aware that this blog post is not a full search engine optimization training and I am not an SEO expert, although blog posts and videos I’ve created have managed to rank in the search engines naturally.
#1 – Write to your viewer, not to a search engine.
Many people write to the search engine trying to ‘game’ the system, but the bots which crawl your website are getting smarter by the day. This trick used to work but really it will devalue your site’s SEO value anyway as people will click away when they find your content makes no sense!
Another thing to bear in mind is Google tracks how long people spend on your site. If people are leaving your site almost immediately, this is a red flag for them and could damage your site rankings. Make sure your site is human friendly as a priority over being robot friendly.
#2 – Be cautious of spammy comments on your site that link to dodgy sites.
Once your site starts gaining some visitors, it’ll likely gain some spammers looking to leverage off your site too. They do this in the form of leaving comments that are often full of nonsense, for the purposes of promoting their website.
If you’re getting a lot of comments and skim reading them before approving them, you could have missed some spammers trying to get a link from your site. You can always go back and edit people’s comments and remove their links before you approve them. Having comments on your site is always a little beneficial for ranking as it’s obvious people are reading them.
#3 – Leave valuable comments on high authority and related websites.
Having high authority and relate websites linking into yours can slowly help boost your ranking. If you leave an insightful comment, you can also get people clicking to visit your website resulting in a trickle of traffic. Although lots of blogs are getting rid of traditional comment systems to use Facebook comments instead, it can’t hurt to search for blogs in your niche to leave thoughtful comments on.
#4 – Create content consistently.
Search engines hate static websites and give them no love! Blogs that consistently have content added are a plus, and Google loves blogs anyway as they are easy for bots to crawl. If you are consistently adding content, it also improves your chance to grow your audience and get return visitors.
Even if you aren’t getting comments or clicks on your content yet, keep going until you too and Google will help you IF you play by their rules!
