Blab Shutting Down? What This Means for Content Creators

Have you heard about Blab Shutting Down? Were you a previous user?

Blab Shutting Down
This is what you see when you visit any page on Blab.com.

Even if you weren’t a previous Blab user, this blog post will be useful if you are a content creator of any kind then what I will cover is what to do next, as well as share some ideas to create content that lasts for a long time even if a social media website shuts down.

You can read the full story here on Medium, where they basically share the highs and lows of the platform. Some of the biggest reasons for failure of Blab were lack of returning users, and really a lack of active users in general who were on similar platforms already that were more popular such as Periscope and Facebook Lives.

For me personally, I did an interview with my friend Rishi where he interviewed me on how to start making money with affiliate marketing even if you are a total newbie to the concept.

Annoyingly, I wasn’t able to embed this onto my blog or download the video. This was a great shame as I wasn’t able to share the content or the platform I had used, like you can on other sites.

What was cool is that you had celebrities such as Tony Robbins and tech heads such as Jason Fried making appearances to the community. They are working on rebuilding Blab as of August 2016 but there are no expected dates for when it’ll be back up and running – it looks like they will merge with another social network that has been around a while called Bebo.

So what happens now with Blab Shutting Down?

Well if you’re a content creator and you had ALL of your content on Blab, then sorry but it’s probably gone for good. The data may be revived but it could be doubtful it’ll be there if and when there is a relaunch. Question is, what can we do in the future to make sure our content is safe if this happens on another platform?

Remember that we don’t own or control these social networks, and so it’s important to always be branching out to new platforms to see if the grass is really greener on other sides. It’s not to lose focus or get distracted, but really to realise that whatever website you are using today may not be as popular even in a month’s time.

The Internet is extremely fast paced; think New York during the Christmas sales. A lot of changes can happen quickly, and because so many changes happen so fast you may not be made aware of all of them.

Facebook for example, invest a lot of money into their platform and as a result things such as how your content is ranked and displayed in the newsfeed is always evolving. The question is, are you evolving with it too or getting left behind?

How you responded to Blab shutting down should be a good indicator how calm and collective you are when s**t hits the fan, resulting in one more platform saying farewell (hey, it may be temporary after all…we will just have to wait and see).

You may find my related post on the Vine shut down useful in terms of keeping your content safe from being shut down without warning. Start backing up today or you might regret it!
