What are some key advantages and disadvantages of outsourcing? Is it really hands-free working?
Most likely you already run a business or organisation and are looking to free up your time a bit, or take on a big project. My goal in this blog post is to go through some advantages and disadvantages of outsourcing, so you get a better understanding of what to expect before jumping into it.
Some of the obvious advantages with outsourcing are being able to work smarter and not just harder. Think about it, if we all got paid for hard work alone, wouldn’t we all be construction workers driving around in shiny new Porsches?
I highly recommend outsourcing as when you’re running your own business, you really do have to do everything and at times it can be exhausting just to keep up with things, let alone get ahead.
Outsourcing allows us to free up our time so we can spend our most valuable commidity which is time elsewhere, in the places it matters. If I spend $10 I can get it back, however if I spend 10 hours then ask yourself, can I get these hours back?
If you’re doing a task that is frustrating, taking you ages to do and is making you no money, then I urge you to consider outsourcing it. Even if you’re a tech head and have experience in the task, if it doesn’t actually get you more sales, leads and clients then why do it if someone else can?
The disadvantages I’ve experienced from outsourcing is that at times mistakes will be made by the other party. Often times this is not their fault though, and it is more times than not down to communication before and during the task is being done.
In these cases you may be tempted do things yourself in future, however you need to make the decision to be the CEO of your business and not the caretaker (no offence, caretakers). If you fall into this trap, work out what your hourly rate is and whether you could afford paying yourself doing the mundane tasks you’re about to do.
Overall, there are definintely advantages and disadvantages to outsourcing but I still recommend doing it, even if it’s on one off projects. Your business (and loved ones!) will thank you for it. If you want to know my recommended source for one off outsourcing starting at $5, see my Fiverr review blog post. You can also check out Fiverr here and see how to use it to get one off jobs completed very affordably.
