1) First of all, I see a lot of marketers promoting a replicated company website. Well, if you’re out there promoting a business that gives you no authority or personal touch, people will not care. Guess what; NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS. People care about what you have to offer.
2) On social networking sites such as Facebook, there are too many marketers “aggressively” promoting their business or product. As soon as you hit their site, their affiliate link is straight in your face. This is a huge turn-off for prospects, and now you’ve turned a hot prospect into just an email address and a name. Of course you still can connect with them, but the trust is lost.
3) When you begin contacting a prospect, DON’T begin re-pitching your business. This will make them feel like they have to join, instead out of personal choice. Don’t shake the “begging bucket” at your leads, they will not help you out unless you help them out; they probably only want to ask you a few questions prior to joining.
4) Introducing yourself with an affiliate link really gives me “cringitus”, a condition where you begin cringing a lot. Yeah, you know that feeling and it’s not a great one. You don’t go to a party and carry a billboard with your business on it (I hope).
So what can you do about these huge online mistakes that can make the difference between success and failure? First of all, begin by introducing yourself. You can add a blog or similar e.g. on your Facebook page, so long as it does not redirect/forward to anything commercial.
What I like to do is put an opt-in form on a blog to give away a free gift (the idea of attraction marketing is to create curiosity, give away something for free without anything in return, etc.) that they will use; and not just sending them an affiliate link.
Join an autoresponder service, set up a 7 day course in marketing secrets for example, and include your link at the end. Simple, really.
Another thing to add; if you’re not already promoting a business that establishes you as the expert, you are wasting your time.
Build your reputation, start your own website/blog and put some content, give away an email course, promote yourself on social networking sites (AND ONLY LINK TO YOUR BLOG, no affiliate links) and build relationships. Create discussion on groups, talk to others, tell them about your blog. Don’t try and sell anything of course.
Okay, that’s about it for me. So use these tips if you’re getting people running from you, and get them running after you for more information.
Thanks a bunch,
Seb
