Facebook Marketers Are Too Aggressive!

It’s unbelievable, really; a few hours on my Facebook account (Seb James Brantigan), I got this message:

{Inbox – Hello James

Great to have you as a friend on Facebook,
How to Generate 20 Leads a Day on Facebook!
Free Facebook Step-by-Step Blueprint is Yours!
www.HikeYourBusinessProfits.com}

And here’s my reply (before removing friend):

{Thanks very much for the unnecessary website promotion. Oh, and my name is Seb. It’s great to have you as a friend.}

People just don’t know how to promote their business or service! It really upsets and degrades the hard working network marketers who are really making money, which means we have to try even harder to reach out to prospects.

And I don’t know how this woman didn’t bombard my wall with this message too…she might as well have done before she got removed as a friend.

But what people don’t realise is that there are other ways of promoting your business (or yourself) without anything as aggressive as this! Too many people are out there promoting blatantly, including an affiliate link (yes, they’re even too lazy to build a capture/squeeze page, or even forward an affiliate link to a domain!).

So here’s the killer question…

How do you promote yourself, your business or service on Facebook? Please discuss and leave a comment, and share this if you agree or like this rant.

Thanks,

  1. Seb…I agree. Facebook as a personal page is not to promote, but to include. Include your tribe in your business and let them find you. Let them be a part of your community. The promotion will take care of itself.

    Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. Dave, thank you for the comment. Yes you are right; it is about getting the right people coming to you and finding your target market.

  2. I agree Seb.

    It’s funny how people think it’s OK to spam advertisements about their marketing system. I guess they figure as long as they aren’t spamming their primary business, that it’s OK. But honestly, it’s becoming just as bad. While I love using marketing systems, with so many people abusing them to try to get another product sale, It makes me want to look for other ways to build a business.

    1. Patrick, you are your best marketing tool – YOURSELF. There is only one of you, so stand out and be original. Give value, create and post original content and network with others (this is not a place to advertise your business!)

  3. agreed… sometimes the amount of ads you get on social networking sites is overwhelming… really kills the purpose of why the site came up… if marketing is to be done anyways… there are lots of subtle ways to do it.

    1. I completely agree Anthony. Just be yourself, stand out and do things differently to “aggressive marketers”, give value for free and eventually you will see results.

  4. Seb, good article I couldn’t agree more. Those “people string” members drive me crazy – it’s just a constant barage of pitches and “invitations”.

    1. You are too right Lou. Although these people are not making any money by doing this; I am monetising these people who are attempting to build their business, heh 😉
