Been looking for ways to outsource without needing a budget or ongoing agreements? Looked at Fiverr and wondered “Is Fiverr a Legit Website“?
Maybe you have a business and are looking to get time consuming or very specific jobs done, such as website design, graphics, business cards or logos. To be honest, I even asked myself “Is Fiverr a legit website” before I used it, and like me perhaps you just have no idea what to expect, or even is Fiverr safe to use. I soon found however, that it is outsourcing on steriods (read on and you’ll see why I say this).
My goal in this blog post is to give you an in-depth Fiverr review and to share how it all works, my experience, examples of work created by users on the site and tell you the full truth so that you are educated enough to make a decision to use it or not.
So how does it work?
You can either be a seller or a buyer on Fiverr. You either sell your services which are called gigs on the marketplace (website), or you are buying them. The services are categorised as the following:
- Graphics & Design e.g. logos, book/product covers, Photoshop
- Digital Marketing e.g. web traffic, SEO, email marketing
- Writing & Translation e.g. transcribing, proofreading, editing
- Video & Animation e.g. video intros, spokespeople, promotional videos
- Music & Audio e.g. voiceovers, sound effects, singer/songwriters
- Programming & Tech e.g. WordPress, file conversion, QA, ecommerce
- Advertising e.g. radio, banner ads
- Business e.g. financial consulting, presentations, career advice
- Fun & Lifestyle (including relationship advice!)
This is the current Fiverr dashboard:
People buy gigs and then give a written review as well as rate from one to five, which you can publicly see. Fiverr show the highest rated gigs as standard so you can see who is delivering great quality work. It can be a great way to get noticed if you want to offer your work as the site is growing in popularity. Here is an interesting article on Forbes about three people that make six figures per year on the site.
The blog banner at the top of my blog was done by someone on Fiverr, as well as the purple logo. My eBook cover for 7 Steps for Unstoppable Sponsoring, also was made there…I paid a little extra and got them delivered faster or in HD quality. I had a total re-brand recently for around $100 mostly from using Fiverr.
The transcribing of some of my YouTube videos has been invaluable too and has saved me heaps of time. Also, I was able to get some professional pictures done (see this blog post on cheap places to get professional pictures taken) and get 20 pictures with the backgrounds removed in 24 hours for $5.
The honest part of my Fiverr review you need to know that others might not tell you
I admit it’s not a one stop shop for ALL outsourcing, and probably not if you need ongoing things one, but I have used it for almost 2 years and loved the experience overall. There was this one time that I hired someone to create graphics for my blog, and my opinion was that the work was cheap looking. When this happened it made me wonder temporarily, is Fiverr a legit website.
I asked for a refund and it was granted without question, then I hired someone else who did the job properly. I believe that Fiverr keeps tabs on sellers that have a high refund rate to ensure a positive customer experience (though I am not 100% on this so please don’t quote).
I think maybe out of 100 gigs I have bought on Fiverr, one or two were not of decent quality so I either refunded or it was re-done properly and promptly with an apology (mistakes happen). I have several pages of orders on Fiverr that I am super satisfied and am repeat buyers with in some cases.
It is rare when this kind of thing happens, and is expected if you are doing any kind of outsourcing…you WILL run into some duds, you can also contact support to let them know if you are really concerned.
If not, just get a refund and move on because you still haven’t lost out. It was also a few years ago, so chances are there is much less of this going on. Also be sure you are very clear in what work you’re asking for as it may be a breakdown of communication. I thought you ought to know about this and I wanted to be fully transparent with this Fiverr review, hope that’s cool!
You can even post requests for a job that you’d like to be completed if you can’t find it, and someone will contact you with a price quote and timeframe.
So despite the above, I do still recommend Fiverr to anyone looking for one off work that is produced quickly and of good quality. Is Fiverr a legit website? I say YES 100%!
If you want to get going, click here to open an account and search for jobs that you want done. a 20% off code for your first gig is MAXB20 – use it wisely 🙂
99 designs I’ve heard is also a great place to go but I have not personally tried it, this is an alternative however. If you’re looking for ongoing outsourcing you may want to look at Elance, which recently merged with oDesk, a well known freelancer site. Hope this Fiverr review was handy!
