“My Mission Statement” (and a minor apology from me)

I took a different path one evening and decided to go through a few films – one of which was called Jerry Maguire. I’ve only watched it about halfway through; it’s about a sports agent who hits rock bottom and decided to write a mission statement for his company titled: The Things We Think And Do Not Say (it’s actually a real one you can read here) so this got me thinking…

Why don’t I write one for myself? Granted I’m self employed, but my name and what I do still represents a brand, a company. I asked a few people on Facebook for feedback on a prototype and here’s my best revised version of it so far:

To provide an abundance of opportunities for those individuals who are progressively realising their dreams and passions in life.”

This is just a rough draft – this isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ statement that matches everyone who comes in contact with it. I put this up as an example for others. In my opinion, it’s in your best interest to create one as I guarantee you, 99%+ of marketers, business owners, networkers etc. have nothing like this; this means that they don’t really know what they’re aiming to achieve for their clients and customers.

I’m not a perfectionist; this took me less than 5 minutes to come up with. I’m sure that many of you out there can do better. If you are going to create one, keep it short and too the point. Don’t drift off and write about every single aspect of your company or services. A few sentences in a paragraph should be sufficient.

Anyhow, my minor apology is to say sorry for not posting content recently. I don’t have an explanation why, I just didn’t feel like writing for a while. I will do my best to keep it coming though, and I hope today’s post more than made up for my blogging absence.

To unlimited prosperity my good friends,

P.S. I’d like a quick favour from you; if you got value from this post, all I’m asking is that you share it! Thanks and have a phenomenal rest of the day.

Great comment….sooo many people walk through life w/no real direction and nothing defining who they are and what they bring to the table for society!

You are absolutely right! Every business owner should have a mission statement and/or a vision statement to remind themselves of why they are doing what they are doing and to convey that to their customers or potential customers. Thanks for the reminder.

  9. Hey Seb I love your blog design, it’s so cool! I like your mission statement too, but I don’t know what mine would be exactly – maybe “To share valuable web resources for online marketers” – short and sweet but it sort of suggests integrity I think. Keep writing dude!
