Upline Downline Relationship: Being a World Class MLM Upline and Downline

How do you manage the upline downline relationship? What are the dynamics of being both an upline and a downline member?

Most likely you’re a network marketer looking for ways to work with people in a more balanced and productive way. Managing an upline downline relationship is almost like managing a real relationship – there are obstacles that happen along the way, challenges to face but for sure it is easier to face them as a team instead of being alone.Upline Downline Relationship

My goal in this blog post is to prepare you for some issues that may pop up, and some ways you can tackle them head-on.

Before I go into this, remember that the upline downline relationship is not the same as a boss employee relationship!

If you’re the upline, here is what you need to know.

One of the big problems you might face are people wanting to quit your organisation. Some will just leave, and others will likely write a ‘Dear John letter’ upon their exit or potential exit. I wouldn’t recommend chasing or begging people to stay, but I am one to give some words of advice to people who are looking to quit.

With that said, I would never discourage someone from changing companies or make them feel guilty for wanting to jump ship. You never know who might come back down the line! I also wrote some advice on this blog post if someone is looking to join more than one MLM.

Things do change over time, so be sure to retain that relationship and don’t make your downline feel like you are only friends with them so long as their auto ship is active. Make this the friends for life program and you will have a powerful network over time.

I also recommend giving your downline a lot more value than what they paid for. Do regular trainings to help new people, and work with the people getting the results instead of those who are not putting in the effort!

If you’re the downline, here is what you need to know.

Step into a leadership role as quickly as possible. The goal should be to get results as fast as possible, so that you can be edified by your upline (good leaders always edify successes) and you can get even more exposure quickly.

Do your best to help other team members by stepping into a leadership role. This will empower them much more than helping them with tech setup and problems. The real leaders will blaze a path for others to follow!

Think about if there are any uplines in your organisation you can help, in return for getting some exposure and getting on their radars. You shouldn’t expect that they have to do something in return for you, but they most likely will do to reciprocate the favour.

Helping out hosting webinars, conference calls and events is a great way to get your name out there, even if you aren’t getting results right now. The positive energy from being around the right people can easily rub off on you, and your results will reflect that over time as long as you stay plugged into the team!
